Macondé Viewpoint is one of the most picturesque and popular spots in the south-west of Mauritius, near the villages of Le Morne and Bel Ombre. Macondé is a rocky ledge located along the coastal road that offers stunning panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and the surrounding natural beauty. It offers panoramic views of the Indian Ocean on one side and mountains, forests and coastal villages on the other.

Especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset, the site is one of the most photographed places in Mauritius. The road that winds around the cliff is often depicted on postcards and tourist brochures

Makonde: The name of the lookout is derived from the name of the Makonde tribe of Africa. It is believed that fugitive slaves (Maraons) who found refuge in the inaccessible areas of Mauritius once hid here.

The viewing platform is located on a narrow but high rocky ledge that drops straight into the ocean. Climbing up a steep staircase, you will find yourself at the top, where you will enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline, surrounding mountains and the ocean.
