The Sir Sivusagur Ramgoolam Statue is a monument to one of the most important figures in the history of Mauritius, Sir Sivusagur Ramgoolam (SSR), who is referred to as the ‘Father of the Nation’. He was the first Prime Minister of Mauritius and played a key role in the island's independence from Britain in 1968. His rule was an important milestone in the formation of the modern Republic of Mauritius. The statue epitomises his contribution to the development of the country and is a symbol of national pride.
