Updated: September 11, 2024
The S.S. Trevessa monument in Mauritius commemorates the ship of the same name, which sank in the Indian Ocean in 1923. The S.S. Trevessa was a British cargo ship carrying zinc and tin from Australia to England. During the voyage, the ship encountered a violent storm and sank. The crew was forced to abandon ship and spent almost a month in lifeboats, travelling great distances before some of the crew were rescued off the coast of Mauritius. This event became widely known because of the heroic efforts of the survivors and their resilience.
This monument is located on the south coast of Mauritius, near Belle Ombre beach, and is a reminder of the tragic incident and the courage of the crew.
