Tamarin Beach

Updated: September 5, 2024

Located on the west coast of Mauritius, Tamarin Beach is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, especially surfers. Unlike many other beaches on the island, Tamarin Beach is not surrounded by coral reefs, making it ideal for surfing.

The beach is famous for its beautiful scenery, where mountains surround the coastline, creating a picturesque backdrop. The sand on the beach is light and soft and the casuarina trees provide natural shade. The water here is calm in the morning hours, ideal for swimming, but by lunchtime the waves increase, attracting surfers.

The sand on the beach, unlike many other beaches in Mauritius, is a light gray shade. It is quite soft and pleasant to the touch, but with an admixture of small pebbles in some places, especially closer to the water.

One of the most attractive moments for many visitors is the opportunity to see dolphins, which often swim into the bay in the morning. Excursions are organized, during which you can watch the dolphins or even swim alongside them.

As it is a public beach - there is not a lot of tourist infrastructure as in the more famous resorts, making it popular with those who want to enjoy an authentic, more relaxed experience. Several restaurants and cafes serving local specialties and fresh seafood can be found around the beach.
