Flic En Flac Beach

Flic en Flac (the name comes from the Dutch “Fried Landt Flaak” - “free flat land”) is one of the most popular resorts in Mauritius, known primarily for its long and landscaped beach, ideal for all kinds of vacations. The beach is surrounded by a coral reef that creates underwater mazes full of diverse marine life.

Located on the west coast of Mauritius and adjacent to the resort town of the same name, the beach starts in the north of the town and stretches to the peninsula of Le Morne Brabant. Its total length is 6 kilometers - and it is the longest beach in Mauritius. Almost the entire length of the beach Flick en Flac is protected by a coral reef, which protects it from the waves. At the edge of the beach stretches a strip of casuarina trees, in the shade of which you can hide from the scorching sun

The beach is divided into 3 parts:

Wolmar Beach (the southern part of Flic en Flac) - almost entirely occupied by hotels. Although the total length of Volmar is almost 3 km, the public beach is only 150 meters long.

The central beach (~1.8 km) is the busiest section with developed infrastructure, ideal for active vacations.

North Flic en Flac is ~1 km of shore, famous for its “instagram” photos. It's the quietest and most secluded part of the beach, with almost nothing but a volleyball court and a few lounge chairs belonging to the hotels nearby.

Flic-en-Flac beach is the perfect place to relax on the white sand or in the shade of casuarina trees. Here you can snorkel and enjoy the underwater world or just relax in the clear waters of the Indian Ocean. This resort is suitable for young people, families with children and those visiting the island for the first time.

Infrastructure of Flic en Flac beach

The beach has everything you need for a comfortable vacation: free toilets and showers, umbrellas, sunbeds, a lot of snack bars and tents with food. Along the beach there are vendors offering fruits and souvenirs, but they are not too intrusive. By the water, you can rent equipment for water activities.

Moving away from the beachfront, you'll find bars, nightclubs and cafes in Flic en Flac, as well as a Spar supermarket and the Pasadena Shopping Center.

There are several dive clubs near the beach where you can rent snorkeling equipment or take private diving and snorkeling lessons.

Sea excursions and activities on Flic en Flac

The most popular excursions on Flic en Flac are swimming with dolphins, catamaran rides and diving. This way you can enjoy the beauty of the underwater world and the closeness to the wildlife.

There are many dive sites near the beach, the most popular ones are:

• Rempart Serpent: this is an underwater rock formation that resembles a coiled snake. Located off the west coast of Mauritius, this dive site is known for its strong currents and attracts large marine life such as manta rays, gray reef sharks and other pelagic species

• L'Orient: Before the “TiangXiang”, this was the largest wreck off the coast of Flick en Flac, at a depth of 38 meters. Diving to this wreck requires a special permit - CMAS 3*** or SSI Deep Diver Specialty

• Cathedral: Steep cliffs connected to massive boulders have formed a unique underwater landscape with arches and caves. These areas have become a haven for lobsters and reef fish. And sunlight streaming through the rift in the vault creates a stunning illusion of stained glass, illuminating the caves with colorful and bizarre lighting effects
