Belle Mare beach

Updated: September 6, 2024

Belle Mare beach in Mauritius is located near the resort village of the same name in the east of the island. It is spread along the shores of a gentle lagoon almost 10 kilometers long and is protected by a coral reef, so the sea here is very calm and quiet, almost without waves and underwater currents. The sand on the beach is talcum-white and finer than on Le Morne beach, made up of tiny particles of coral. The bottom of the beach is mostly sandy, although there are some rocky areas.

This stretch of the east coast - with its mangroves and turquoise lagoons - is home to several upscale hotels.

As on most beaches in Mauritius, there are casuarina trees along the beach to provide natural shade and protection from the wind and sun. All infrastructure on the beach - umbrellas, sun beds, rental shops - belongs to the hotels.
